Should you buy the Galaxy Watch5 during the Black Friday Samsung Watch Deals?

Updated on November 24, 2023 - Excited by the new Samsung Galaxy Watch5? Looking to buy a Samsung watch anyway on Black Friday? Well, whether you're looking to upgrade from an older model or want to buy your first smartwatch ever, we've got you covered. In this article, we'll get into everything you need to know before shopping for Black Friday Samsung Watch deals and review the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro smartwatches in greater detail.

When will 2023 Black Friday Samsung Watch deals start?

The day that Black Friday sales start doesn't change from year to year; it's always the day after Thanksgiving.

In 2023, Black Friday will fall on November 24. And, of course, it's going to be a Friday. 😉

Samsung is one of the many companies that like to roll out deals earlier though. Basically, as soon as the month of November starts, you'll start to see special promotions and offers available. You can sometimes sign up for early access on their website too.

Of course, you could also consider not waiting for the busiest shopping season of the year. You can already find great Samsung Galaxy Watch deals and other smartwatch models on refurbished marketplaces like Back Market! No need to even wait for a Black Friday smartwatch deal! 🤗

Reasons to buy a Samsung Galaxy smartwatch

Just as a smartphone is a smart phone, a smartwatch is a smart watch. It's basically a mini computer that you wear on your wrist. ⌚ In many cases, they act as extensions of your smartphone and give you a ton of features for monitoring your health, tracking your fitness activities, managing notifications and more.

Samsung's Galaxy Watches are the best smartwatches for Samsung smartphone users. They run on the Google Wear OS which was recently expanded in partnership with Samsung. This means you can use all the same Google apps ie. Google Maps, Google Pay, Messages, etc. -- plus Samsung apps like Samsung Pay, Samsung Messages, Bixby and more. You get access to the usual smartwatch features with most of your smartphone's capabilities.

👉 In short: Samsung Galaxy smartphones + Samsung Galaxy smartwatches = amazing user experience.

Does every Samsung phone user need a Galaxy Watch? 🤔 No, we don't think so. If you already carry your phone around everywhere, you'll get much less benefit from a smartwatch.

However, if you're the type to misplace or forget your phone, a smartwatch will give you the ability to keep receiving notifications (and give you a tracking feature to find it). Of course, it's also worth considering a Samsung Galaxy watch if you're trying to stay on top of your health and fitness. You can track activities throughout the day, and they include several sensors for monitoring things like your heart rate, sleep, body temperature and more.

We should note though: if you are only trying to stay on top of your health, there are better options. ❗ The advantage of a Galaxy Watch is that it gives you the convenience of a mini Samsung smartphone and a fitness tracker in one device. If you're only interested in tracking fitness, you could consider a dedicated device like a Fitbit or Garmin smartwatch instead.

Is the Galaxy Watch5 worth it?

If you own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, and you want some added convenience, the Galaxy Watch5 is simply one of the best value-for-money options for a smartwatch right now.

Starting at £139 refurbished, for the Bluetooth 40mm version (on Back Market - price checked on 02/11/2023), it's not as expensive as the Apple watches which iPhone users use. However, you'd be right to be a little sceptical of the price nonetheless. 👀

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Watch4, the updated 2022 model has a new sensor for skin temperature, an improved battery life, and a display that's more scratch-resistant. Frankly, these are pretty underwhelming changes. 🤨 And there's insult to injury when you consider that they launched the smartwatch with their digital bezel feature being frustratingly slow and the new temperature sensor not even working yet.

What's more, is that Samsung hasn't fixed the Android compatibility issue either. Specifically, blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring are essentially Samsung-only since you need to install the Samsung Health Monitor app to use it -- and that's only available on the Galaxy Store.

In a sentence: the Galaxy Watch5 is worth it only if you're buying a Galaxy Watch for the first time, and if you have a Samsung smartphone. Otherwise, you can probably skip this purchase and not miss anything. 👍

Galaxy Watch5 vs Galaxy Watch5 Pro Watch

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro is better suited for those that prefer a larger display and need more battery life. It takes the convenience of a great everyday watch and adds some functionality that you'd find in a sports watch.

Comparing the Galaxy Watch5 Pro to the Watch5, you're getting a more rugged design (although at the expense of the digital bezel), a bigger screen, some added GPS features including turn-by-turn directions and trackback, plus a longer battery life. Both have some waterproof protection, and both are available with LTE.

While yearly iterations are usually modest, they are especially modest in the case of the Galaxy Watch5. They're basically the same device, besides the battery life. If you're really wanting a couple of days in between charges, it's possibly worth getting the Watch5 Pro Watch. Otherwise, the Galaxy Watch5 (or the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and other older models) are just as good.

Should you shop the Samsung Galaxy Watch Black Friday UK deals or wait until Cyber Monday?

We think Samsung is pretty uninspired when it comes to November deals. You can get a free Samsung Watch on Black Friday UK, but only when you purchase a much more expensive Galaxy smartphone. We don't expect any other unique offers this year otherwise.

We've listed a few early Black Friday deals so far (prices checked on 24/11/2023), but it's nothing compared to the refurbished prices on Back Market which is "naturally" cheaper, thus better for the planet and your wallet 😉:

  • Samsung: save £50 on the Galaxy Watch6 series and pay £349 instead of £399 for the Galaxy Watch6 Classic

  • Argos: save £50 on the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 40mm Smart Watch - Gold, and purchase at £239, instead of £289

  • John Lewis: save £100 on the Galaxy Watch5 Pro to purchase at £329, instead of £429. Plus claim a free Duo wireless charger when you buy the Galaxy Watch6

  • Very: save £200 on the Galaxy Watch4 Classic 46mm (GPS) - Black, and pay £169 instead of £369

Whilst retailers are commonly slashing prices down by £50-£200, the actual price is still a hefty, especially if you're after one of the later models. Whereas on Back Market, you can get a refurbished Galaxy Watch5 Pro from as low as £226 (price checked on 24/11/2023). For other models you can also grab some refurbished bargains such as:

Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday deals are far from representing a big discount or the lowest price possible on tech. Similarly, the latest smartwatches aren't really worth paying "top dollar" for.

To really get the best smartwatch sales, you shouldn't wait for any event in November. Instead, consider buying a refurbished Galaxy Watch now at Back Market. You'll get the same device except with a discount up to 50% off compared to new prices, a 12-month minimum warranty and 30-day returns. It's a 100% guaranteed way to get a deal – no waiting necessary. 😎
