Black Friday Samsung phone deals: should I buy a Samsung phone now or wait for Black Friday 2023?

Updated on November 24, 2023 - With Black Friday 2023 finally here, you're probably asking yourself: "should I wait for their Black Friday deals, or should I just buy a Samsung phone now?" While that may seem like a question of convenience over cost, you'll be happy to know that you can actually get a great device at a great deal now (and anytime in fact). Let's evaluate both options so you can make a good decision.

Black Friday 2023: when do Samsung phone deals start?

If you've been thinking about buying new tech -- phone, tablet, TV, home appliances, etc. -- Samsung is a great brand to consider. They sell all those things and more, and they're well known for their high-quality products. More specifically, their smartphone models like the S22, A21, Z Flip and Z Fold are some of the best Android devices available right now.

Black Friday deals this year will officially start on November 24, 20223 Traditionally, it's always the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, which falls on the 23rd of November (Thursday) this year.

However, sales have been starting earlier and earlier with each passing year. Samsung is known to follow this trend too, with their smartphone deals usually beginning at least 1 week early.

In fact, if you wait until November 24th to buy a new Samsung phone, there may not be any deals left. There are always limited quantities so you have to be a fast shopper if you want to catch the very best offers.

What Black Friday Samsung phone deals happened in 2022?

Not all brands and stores participate in the year's busiest shopping day. Samsung is thankfully a brand that does though, and in previous years, they've been known to discount smartphones, smartwatches, TVs and tablets.

in 2022, they offered the following price drops:

  • £200 savings on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G, which went down to £949 from £1,149.

  • £250 savings on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, which went down to £699 from £949.

  • £110 savings on the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G, which went down to £299 from £409

In comparison to Back Market now, you can get the same models refurbished for the following prices:

One carrier was offering a free Samsung Galaxy S21... but only for new customers... and only if you stayed on an expensive monthly plan... Plus, the savings were bill credits meaning forfeiting the contract meant you'd be charged the full non-sale amount for the phone. Not exactly a deal for those of us that don't want to switch mobile phone carriers or be tied down by a contract.

In most cases, smartphone deals were only £100 off at most. While that's not bad, it's definitely a bit modest considering new smartphones sell for around £900 these days! In this economy? 😬

What can we expect from Black Friday Samsung phone deals in 2023?

We've rounded up some Black Friday deals below that are currently advertised across various retailers (price checked on 24/11/2023), so you can consider some of the best cheap Samsung phone deals in the market:

  • John Lewis: Galaxy Z Flip4, 5G Foldable Smartphone, 8GB RAM, 6.7”, 5G, SIM Free, 128GB, Pink Gold - claim 6-months of Disney+ for free when you buy this model for £549

  • Samsung:

    • Samsung S23 and 23 Plus: Claim £100 cashback, free Galaxy Buds FE and 12 months Disney+ with purchase of either models.

    • Samsung S23 Ultra: Get £250 off the Galaxy S23 Ultra when you use the code S23ULTRA250 at checkout

  • AO: Get the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G (128GB) in Awesome Graphite colour, on a £15 p/m contract (24-months), with £59 upfront costs, and receive 20GB of data plus unlimited minutes and texts with the O2 network.

While free earphones, streaming services and added discount after trade-in sounds nice, nothing beats the Back Market discount off the price of new that ranges between 30% to 50%, which looks like the following prices when refurbished from Back Market:

Furthermore, each refurbished device from the Back Market platform comes together with 1-year warranty and 30-days to return the device for just in case.

These are okay deals, but we don't think they're the amazing Black Friday deals that get people rushing to the stores. Which then leaves the question, where can you find the best Samsung smartphone deals on Black Friday?

The best Black Friday Samsung smartphone deals

The simple truth is that new Samsung devices are still going to be pretty expensive. We would estimate that most people can only expect to save 10% -- and even that is optimistic.

So if you're looking for the absolute best savings, you should consider shopping for refurbished Samsung smartphones. Devices that have been professionally refurbished are often available in like-new condition with the only significant difference being the much lower price.

Here at Back Market, you can expect to save between 30% to 50% off the latest Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy S23 and Z Flip5. Plus, we include a 12-month warranty and 30-day free returns to guarantee you're happy with your new-ish device.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy a new phone?

There are only a few situations where waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals make sense. For most people, we don't recommend waiting until November to buy a new smartphone -- or any other tech. You can enjoy great devices at great prices year-round if you just shop for refurbished tech instead.

Whether you want a Samsung, iPhone, Huawei or any other mobile device, Back Market has you covered! You can save up to 70% off refurbished smartphones on our website. And you don't have to wait until a special sale or qualify for those kinds of savings either. So do yourself a favour this year and shop refurbished this upcoming holiday shopping season. Your wallet -- and our environment -- will thank you.
