A look at how the Sega Genesis made a huge impact on the lives of Back Market customers, who share memories triggered by our recent interview with US rapper Curren$y.

Earlier this month Back Market launched our exciting new feature series The Device That Made Me, which celebrates the electronics that make us who we are today. We kicked things off with an exclusive interview with New Orleans’ rap legend Curren$y, who spoke with Thomas Hobbs about how the Sega Genesis directly influenced his laid-back bars and provided salvation amid growing up in a dangerous neighbourhood.

The company’s 1989 console was Curren$y’s gateway to Ecco the Dolphin, a game he played in his childhood bedroom, fully immersed in its gloomy underwater soundscapes. Unsurprisingly, our chat with this rap legend went viral, prompting hundreds of you to share your own stories about the magic of the Sega Genesis (called the Sega Megadrive in Europe) and the formative role it played in your lives. Here’s a roundup of some of the best responses from our Instagram post
