Sony Xperia 1 V

I ordered an "Excellent condition" refurbished phone but received a phone in fair condition. There were numerous scratches on the phone body and a couple of very noticeable scratches on the screen. The phone was also a Japanese version and not compatible with the UK's 5G network though worked fine with 4G. Because the phone was not in Excellent Condition as expected I sent the phone back for a full refund and ordered another phone in "Good condition" from one of BackMarket's competitors that arrived in much better condition than the supposedly "Excellent condition" phone from BackMarket and was also a UK phone. At least there were no problems returning the phone for a refund but I will not be using BackMarket again.

It's not often I leave a bad review but in this instance I have no choice. I ordered the Sony 1v, in excellent condition. What arrived, I can only describe is anything but excellent. First of all when opening the package and took the phone out of its bubble wrap sleeve, I noticed multiple scratches on the device and a label that said "very good", not the apparently excellent condition if paid for. I was disappointed but thought after I'd tested it, I'd let the seller know. Accidents happen and I thought maybe they'd sent the wrong one. I intended to use a case also, so scratches weren't a huge issue. Maybe worthy of a partial refund but I thought I best test it more. I went to charge it and noticed the port was heavily scratched and damaged. Again not good. Upon starting up the device, everything was in japanese, so I'd been sent a Japanese variant, not compatible with all UK bands. At this point I thought, what have I been sent, then I noticed yet another issue. I could see significant screen burn over the whole screen. Much of which had a Japanese font on the text. The screen burn is fully across the screen and hugely visible when on lighter screens but also on dark too. So all in all, I received a phone that's essentially a scrap item and should never been on sale at all until refurbished. How this was labelled as excellent at the point of sale and had a very good label on it, I have no idea as anyone could see those issues easily. Having dug a bit deeper, I don't know how backmarket can view this seller as a refurb specialist, that does 25 checks. In this sale, they have sent a scrap item that appears to have had no checks. The seller is a vape shop, not a refurb specialist at all. Poor vetting by backmarket it seems. If that's the level backmarket are happy to accept, then this will be my one and only purchase from backmarket, which is unfair on the genuine sellers out there. Arrived in excellent condition as promised, looks like a Japanese import model that has hardly been used (virtually no marks or scratches to be seen but some Japanese apps installed). You warned me the device may not work with the Three network (which I'm on) but I took a gamble and it seems absolutely fine with my SIM card. Waiting for a case to arrive and not tested the camera yet but I have transferred most apps from my old phone. Spotify and the all-important headphone socket work perfectly! Screen quality is great. This is a key part of getting my life back on track after my old Sony was smashed up in a road accident when a careless van driver knocked me off my bike, landing me in hospital!

I am a long time Sony fan and very much wanted an Xperia 1 V because it is the last of the line to be made with gorilla glass. I knew I would love the phone but the one that was delivered was in much better condition than I expected and it arrived much faster than I thought. so thank you very much, Back Market.

The phone is PERFECT! Not a single mark or scratch or anything on the casing, battery power is great and screen immaculate as described. Considering it's "good" condition I'm really really happy! And have already recommended to multiple people!

Great buy - phone is great for the price and looked in mint condition. The only negative was quite a lot of Japanese built in apps on the phone (I assume that's where it originated) but doesn't seem to affect anything important. Would definitely buy from Back market again.
