Black Friday 2023

Boost your gaming experience with a cheap Xbox controller on Black Friday 2023!

Updated on 2 November, 2023 - Do you ever miss the days of couch co-op games on the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or even the Dreamcast (remember those?). Nowadays, the direction from game production companies is to create single-player RPGs and build an online community to enjoy multiplayer gaming virtually, rather than having friends over in the flesh! Luckily, there is still a customer demand for local co-op games (myself included) and we are now seeing a slow rise again in game titles creating local multiplayer modes. As such, you may want to look out for another cheap Xbox controller, PS4 controller, or Nintendo Switch Joy Con this Black Friday 2023 to bring back the good old days! Here is a list of some great game titles to look out for on the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch that provide local multiplayer.

First of all, is Black Friday the best time to get an Xbox controller?

You may be tempted to wait for other sales events to get an Xbox controller or other console controllers, but Adobe reports that electronics go at their lowest price during Black Friday week, based on how last year went. This year, we’re anticipating retailers to advertise Black Friday deals earlier with consumer behaviour shifting towards getting their shopping done early, in order to spread out the cost of their holiday plans.

We advise to be on the lookout from the start of November, but really decide during Black Friday week to ensure you get the best deal possible for yourself. Equally, Cyber Monday is looking to be an extension of Black Friday deals in order for retailers to maximise November as a month of sales to get rid of old inventory.

Which retailers are offering Black Friday Xbox controller deals?

You can expect a lot of the usual tech retailers to offer Black Friday deals such as John Lewis, Currys, Argos, and Game. It goes without saying that Amazon will always be present during Black Friday, so it will be worth comparing prices from all retailers during Black Friday week.

We've rounded up a few Black Friday deals below (prices checked on 02/11/2023) that are advertised already, but when you compare with Back Market's refurbished prices you'll start to see a clear winner!

  • Amazon UK: save up to £10 off a wide range of Xbox series controllers

  • Argos: receive "money off bundles" when you purchase an Xbox controller

  • Very: save £15.99 on the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in Core Blue for £109, instead of £124.99

In comparison to a refurbished Xbox controller, you can save between 30% - 50% off the price of new, plus receive 1-year warranty and 30-days to change your mind whenever you purchase from Back Market:

How cheap will Xbox controller deals be on Black Friday?

This year has been more unpredictable than usual with supply chain issues, especially with gaming hardware, so it’s hard to imagine significant price drops. At best we may see a 20% discount, however, there is a better option out there with refurbished game controllers instead!

Refurbished Xbox controllers, PlayStation 4 controllers, or Nintendo Switch Joy Con controllers are all discounted between 30% - 50% off the cost of buying brand new when you shop on Back Market. Back Market partners with over 1,000 refurbished partners renew used or second hand controllers to ensure it works perfectly fine. Furthermore, you’ll still be protected as you would when buying something new, with 1-year’s warranty, and a return policy of 30-days hassle free.

So which games should I buy an extra controller for local multiplayer?

It Takes Two

An award-winning and thoroughly entertaining game that was from the same creators as ‘A Way Out’ - It Takes Two is really one of the perfect couch co-op games to play today. Released not long ago in 2021, the storyline follows a married couple on the brink of divorce, who suddenly fall to magic where they turn into dolls and embark on an adventure of puzzles and mini-games.

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Unravel Two

If you’ve played the first Unravel game, then you can expect plenty of the same fun but in new and challenging ways! Similar to It Takes Two, but with less variety of challenges, there are still some solid hours of gaming to be had with Unravel Two.

Packed with gorgeous graphics, and a game that focuses on teamwork at the centre of fun and progress, you won’t go wrong with this pick.

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

A Way Out

As mentioned earlier, the makers of It Takes Two have a knack for making hugely enjoyable co-op games. A Way Out is a cool ‘Prison Break’ style game where you experience a variety of different challenges played out in real-life gritty situations. Breaking out of prison is just the beginning, get ready for more challenges after 😉.

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

One of the best Star Wars games to experience, this is a game you don’t want to miss out on. A well-crafted open world adventure that can be played in co-op mode, you will still need to upgrade your character throughout. Gameplay is varied with a perfect balance of humour and seriousness, this is overall a fun game to own!

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Cuphead

Probably one of the most frustrating, yet addictive co-op games in the market. This is a beautiful game all-round, with 1930s-inspired theme, it’s even got its own Netflix show now! Play with your partner or in single player mode, just try to refrain from breaking your controller with this game as it can build you up just to break you down at the last second - simple and ultra fun challenges, but composure is a must with this game 😅.

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Super Bomberman R

A Nintendo classic, this is a timeless game where you can play up to 8 players in a local game! The rules haven’t changed and the aim is to always blow your friend out of the map using the various perks you collect from blowing up the map to relieve obstacles. An exciting twist to this game is that even when you’re eliminated you can still win your place back by participating from the sidelines by throwing bombs to trip your mates up - absolute chaos!

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Overcooked!

Whether it’s Overcooked 1 or 2, the franchise was an instant hit once it came onto the shelves. Without a doubt it is a frenetic yet hilarious multi-tasking game where you can play between 2-4 players to meet the set targets on each level. Just expect constant shouting above each other when playing this game - this is something that just has to be part of the couch game collection!

Available to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Super Mario Kart

For those that grew up with a Nintendo console, this game would have stuck with you through the ages. It is still a fan favourite and will never get boring (you heard it here first!), unfortunately this is only exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, but this franchise is still so good that it probably justifies the purchase of a Nintendo Switch alone - trust me, it is really ‘that’ fun!.

Available to Nintendo Switch only.

Super Mario Smash Bros

Another Nintendo favourite, if you love royal rumble ‘beat em up’ style games with a load of friends, then this game will give your party endless hours of joy! Choose from your favourite characters across the Nintendo universe like Donkey Kong, Luigi, Pikachu, and more, and start using their unique qualities to knock your opponent off the battle stage. Again, this is a Nintendo exclusive, and should be one of your ‘must-have’ games on the Nintendo Switch.

Available to Nintendo Switch only.
