iPhone 8 vs iPhone XS Comparison

iPhone 8 vs iPhone XS: the ultimate classic takes on the future

The iPhone 8 is the last iPhone with the classic look and home screen, while the iPhone XS is the beginning of a new era of iPhone tech. Which is the right one for you?

iPhone XS – a new screen and enhanced processor

The iPhone XS is the first phone to feature the new OLED screen with great image quality, faster motion, and sharper contrast. It’s pretty. The screen is a decent 5.8 inches, so you really get the chance to enjoy it. The phone itself measures 158 x 77 mm, so it’s not as easy to slip it into a pocket or small bag, but you can’t have a bigger screen without a bigger phone, right? The screen appears even bigger, as there’s no home screen or bezels. This phone is also fast, with an A12 six-core bionic processor, compared to the slightly slower A11 on the iPhone 8.

If you like your photography, then the iPhone XS has plenty to offer, a 12 MP dual rear camera and a 7 MP single front camera. The iPhone 8 in comparison, has the same 7 MP front camera, but the 12 MP rear camera is only single lens – that said, you can still take pretty great pictures. Both cameras offer wireless charging.

iPhone 8 – classic but still brilliant

The iPhone 8 is a really good phone. It’s well-built, has a decent processor and will run iOS 16 with ease. Many people still like the classic iPhone design with a home button, and this phone is the last of that kind. It’s a good size without being overly large (138 x 67 mm) and has a 4.7-inch screen, which is enough to please most people. It also offers touch ID instead of face ID, which some people prefer. Another major difference between the iPhone 8 and the XS is the price. When first released, you could buy an iPhone 8 for around £699, whereas the iPhone XS would set you back around £999. Both are now much cheaper refurbished, but the iPhone XS will still cost you more.

Which is best?

There’s no one-size-fits-all with smartphones, and you have to pick what works for you. Are you a fan of a classic-style phone you can slip into your pocket? Or are you hankering after the future and a bigger screen for your entertainment?

From phones to fridges, you can’t choose wrong.
